It’s been a busy couple of years for custom home builders in Perth, Western Australia, and it looks like that trend is set to continue. With a strong amount of approvals having been pushed through in the last year, the pipeline of activity is looking pretty good for the Perth new homes and construction market.
Research from CoreLogic RP Data reveals that out of the top 20 regions for house approvals, Western Australia holds five of the tops spots, and four of those are in Perth. Northwest Perth is in third place out of the whole country, with 4,248 approvals in the year to April 2015. In fourth and fifth place are southeast and southwest Perth, with 4,011 and 3,518 respectively Northeast Perth is also a hot ticket, with 2,843 approvals for the year in seventh place. Bunbury is another WA region to make the top 20.
Interestingly, as most capital cities lean towards units instead of detached homes, Perth is one of the outliers. Along with Hobart and Adelaide, the WA capital is one of the few major cities where approvals for freestanding homes exceeds the amount of approvals for multiunit dwellings. This is likely evidence for the traditional preference for luxury homes with substantial lots, over more confined quarters.
The Housing Institute Association reveals that the amount of dwelling approvals in April – 214,331 for the country – is a new record for any 12 month period. With a strong base like this to literally build on, the construction industry is poised for a steady stream of jobs ahead.
